How much pure alcohol is in a drink?
Enter the serving size and alcohol by volume (ABV). The result is the amount of pure ethanol in the drink, not your blood alcohol level.
Formula
Ethanol (g) = volume (ml) × ABV / 100 × 0.789. The constant is ethanol’s approximate density.
Comparison
Compare like with like. A 500 ml serving at 5% ABV contains more ethanol than a 150 ml serving at 12% ABV, even though the wine has a higher alcohol strength.
