AlcoCalc

Alcohol in cocktails

Compare typical servings and the amount of pure ethanol they contain. The 8 g/hour calculation is illustrative; it does not predict how long an individual will take to sober up.

Add the first drink and you will see the estimate.

Drinks consumed

The model spreads drinks evenly between the start and end times. It assumes that each drink takes 45 minutes to absorb.

A mathematical estimate is not a measurement. Even 0.00 ‰ does not confirm the ability to drive.

Only the alcoholic ingredients in one model serving are shown. The assumed alcohol percentages are listed for each ingredient. Recipe, brand and serving size can change the result; juice, soda and ice do not change the amount of ethanol.

Illustrative calculation: grams of ethanol ÷ 8 g/h. It does not account for absorption or body measurements and differs from the main calculator model. It does not predict when you will be sober and must not be used to decide whether to drive.

Calculation method

Ethanol (g) = volume (ml) × ABV / 100 × 0.789. The constant is ethanol’s approximate density.
